There was a period of time after Carl was out of the military that he felt like he didn’t have a purpose. November, 1954 – December, 1957 was a dark time in his life where he didn’t have any direction on what to do. He began to hitchhike without a destination in mind.
His travels brought him to Nebraska and Kansas. I find it so interesting that these were the two states he went to and they are the same two states I’ve lived in since getting married.
His first job was in Lincoln, Nebraska. He also worked in various places in Kansas. While in Kansas he worked on the pipeline.
He filled his time with a lot of drinking and carousing. He was arrested a couple of times during this rough period.
